Perly's, the downtown landmark for power broker breakfasts and an often-full house, is closed at 111 E. Grace St.

Owner Gray Wyatt apologizes for today's abrupt shut down; a hand-written note on the door mentions a rough patch but "I am hoping to sort it out."

Phone calls went unanswered but online commenters throughout the city are expressing dismay and surprise that the 50-year diner could disappear. Update: A message posted on the Perly's Facebook page says expenses exceeded revenue. It continues, "I know I am disappointing a lot of people but frankly my options have been exhausted. And I am too. I apologize to my staff and others whose lives I have upset by allowing this to happen. The future does not look bright but never say never. If I can somehow turn this around, I will."
