Keeping things free and loose in her adolescence, getting kicked out of high school, traveling abroad and eventually moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music, Lissie Maurus started making a name for herself last year with her breakthrough EP, “Why You Runnin',” a dusty collection of folk-pop tunes that helped her land an opening touring slot for Ray LaMontagne. Upping the ante is her first proper full-length, “Catching a Tiger.” Her soulful, howling vocals certainly her greatest strength, Lissie is easily on par with the likes of Stevie Nicks, a flaxen-haired beauty blown in by a canyon wind. Also capable of pulling out a surprising cover of Lady Gaga's “Bad Romance,” Lissie is scheduled to play the 9:30 Club with Dylan LeBlanc at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20. $15. 202-265-0930. — Mike Hilleary
