Calling all unwed fathers: Richmond’s first homegrown, reality-TV sensation already has spawned a spinoff.

The creator of the “Real Babymamas of Richmond” put out a casting call Sunday for the production’s next venture: “The Real Babydaddies of Richmond.” Interested fathers are asked to audition in person Friday, from 1:30-7 p.m. at 2515 Fourth Ave.

For the uninitiated, “The Real Babymamas” is loosely modeled after “The Real Housewives” franchise, only with the goal of depicting the real-life challenges of low-income, single mothers in Richmond.

The show debuted on public access television in late June, and the fourth of six episodes aired Monday. The final two are edited and ready to air.

That’s why show creator Aretha Lewis says she decided to turn her attention to daddies in considering a second season.

The two shows will be separate, Lewis says, but there may be some crossover when cast members debate “from a baby daddy’s perspective and from a baby mama’s perspective.”

Keeping with the goal of the original, she says she wants to keep it positive.

“We don’t want deadbeats,” she says. “I really just want ones who step up and take care of their responsibilities, are active — football practices and things like that — and some of them that actually have custody and are raising the children.”
