More Money Isn't the Solution

comment
"The Real Problem With Our Schools" (Cover Story, Aug. 22) appears to be focused on the disparities between county and city schools; however, while the free lunch and SOL test scores were reported, there was no mention of the school system's spending per student. From what I understand, there is actually more spent per student in the city school system than in the county.

If the schools are failing despite this, then the solution would not be additional funding, whether it is spent in the schools or in adding more social services to the already burdened system. And after reading this article, I'm not sure how a regional partnership would help any of the school systems. The issue seems to be one of economics, not city vs. county.
