The U.S. prison population is more than 2.4 million people. To put that into sickening perspective, one in every 100 Americans is behind bars in the land of the free. One of the main reasons the country’s prison population has quadrupled since 1980 is mandatory sentencing laws for drug offenders. In light of this continuing moral, social and financial travesty, Richmond’s Collective X has organized the March Against Mass Incarceration for Saturday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m. at Abner Clay Park. Regardless of your political affiliation, perhaps we can all agree that you’d have to be really, really high to think that the War on Drugs has been anything but a failure. mamirva.wordpress.com.
