Philadelphia lo-fi indie rocker Kurt Vile has been compared to the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young, but has a style of music all his own. The founding member of the War on Drugs, Vile’s influences include Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan and early blues and folk music, influences evident on 2009’s “Childish Prodigy,” which thrust Vile into the spotlight with catchy songs, including “He’s Alright,” which was featured in the HBO hit series “Eastbound & Down.” Vile’s latest release, “Smoke Ring for My Halo,” received critical acclaim upon its release, earning top spots on Mojo, Uncut and Pitchfork’s best of the year lists. It’s a shimmering piece of narcotic folk that rewards your complete attention. Kurt Vile and his band the Violators are scheduled to perform at Strange Matter on Friday, March 23, at 6 p.m. $12-$15. 447-4763.
