The members of Jonathan Vassar and the Speckled Bird have been busy with various projects during the past year, so it’s been a while since the folk collective performed as a whole. And after its mandolin player moved to the West Coast, the group added Paul Watson of And the Wiremen. Watson, who’s played with many local acts, including the Broken Hips and Sparklehorse, will play cornet and classical guitar in the Bird’s new incarnation, which only adds to the dynamic Americana sounds. With a new album in the works and plenty of new material to share, Jonathan Vassar and the new Speckled Bird will present an excellent night of folk when they hit Balliceaux on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 9 p.m. $5. 355-3008.
