Happy Skalidays at Strange Matter

Dec. 21 and Dec. 22 at 6 p.m. $10-$20.

Every year, Richmond’s ska and punk community has marked the holiday season with Happy Skalidays, a celebration of local music and holiday charity. The party takes place over two nights at Strange Matter — the first show filled with rock, punk and reggae performances by the Pietasters, Elby Brass, Herro Sugar and Murphy’s Kids, who will play again the second night along with performances from Patent Pending, Tsunami Rising, Eastern Standard Time and a reunion of Richmond’s avant-electrofunk quartet Aquafuture. Proceeds go toward Tricycle Gardens, a local organization that works to create sustainable, healthy food systems for communities in Richmond. Canned goods and blankets will also be collected for the homeless. Happy Skalidays loudly rings in the season at Strange Matter on Dec. 21 and Dec. 22 at 6 p.m. $10-$20. strangematterrva.com.
