When I saw that Hanson was playing at the National on Sept. 4, my first thought was, “Hanson is still together?” While most one-hit wonders mercifully disappear once they’ve overstayed their welcome, these children of the corn who wormed their way into public consciousness in 1997 with the catchy hit “MMMBop” never went away. They just kept playing. Their post-puberty career will never eclipse their prepubescent success, but the group keeps touring and releasing music anyway. The brothers Hanson are in it for the long haul if we like it or not. Like most people, I can’t listen to their newer material objectively, but their new album “Anthem” updates the squeaky clean sound of (relative) old with a muscular musical maturity that’s admirable. That said, such new tracks as “I’ve Got Soul” and “Cut Right Through Me” still makes me want to kill people. Hopefully the little girls still understand. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $25 in advance and $30 at the door. thenationalva.com.
