Despite what the name suggests, Gospel Music consists of no actual gospel music but plenty of lo-fi indie pop. What began as a solo project by Owen Holmes, the bass player for party rock band Black Kids, quickly turned into something bigger. On his debut EP, “Duettes,” Holmes roped in some of indie pop’s finest voices, including members of the Magnetic Fields, Vivian Girls and Camera Obscura. While the style of Gospel Music’s latest release, “How to Get to Heaven from Jacksonville, FL,” is noticeably more somber and mellow than Black Kids’ normal dance-party sound, fans have flocked to it. Gospel Music performs at Strange Matter on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 9 p.m. $8-$10. 447-4763.
