Doesn't it feel good to think about hot outdoor concerts right about now?

Friday Cheers, the affordable summer concert series at Brown's Island, has announced its 2014 shows.

Highlights so far include New Orleans' own Funky Meters on June 6th, Cali's Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers on May 2, locals night on May 23 featuring the Avers, the Green Boys, and Todd Herrington, and Neko Case closing out the series on June 27.

The shows take place Friday evenings from 6 to 9:30 p.m. and generally cost $10, though some shows are $5. Tickets go on sale this Friday here. You can get a season pass for $35 until April 1.

Announced Schedule:

May 2 - Vintage Trouble (blues rock) and Nicki Bluhm and Gramblers (folk rock/pop) - $10

May 9 - Lord Huron (indie folk) and locals, the Northerners (rock folk) - $10

May 23 - LOCALS NIGHT: Avers (psych rock), Todd Herrington (jazz funk) and Green Boys (country/bluegrass).

May 30 - J. Roddy Walston and the Business (rock) and Kopecky Family Band (indie folk/pop)

June 6 - Spirit Family Reunion (wild acoustic/roots)and Futurebirds (psych country)- $5

June 13th - The Funky Meters (classic funk) and locals, Mekong Express and the Get Fresh Horns (funk featuring local musicians from numerous soul, jazz, rock bands).

June 20th - Houndmouth (folk rock/Americana) and St. Paul and the Broken Bones (white soul) - $5

June 27th - Neko Case (country/folk) and Laura Veirs (folk) - $10

On a sad note, for those who like drinking wine or beer as the sun sets to live music, it was announced that Groovin' in the Garden series at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is going on hiatus for two years.

The reason announced was the construction of the new Cherry Tree Walk. The music series should return in 2016, minus its momentum.

The last few years have seen some great shows in this setting, including Mavis Staples, Dweezil Zappa, and Gillian Welch and David Rawlings.

However, Haymaker Productions which booked the series will still be booking shows for Music at Maymont.
