OK, so maybe we haven’t seen your boyfriend’s apartment. But we do know that upstairs at the National there’s a room straight out of a David Lynch dream sequence starring Peter Dinklage as a murderous jack-in-the-box clown who speaks backward into his own severed ear. We’re talking about the old hidden nursery room that was rediscovered during restoration of the building in the early 1990s. There’s a far-fetched urban legend involving a former cheating manager, his wife’s suicide downstairs, and her friend who painted the room with dangling little children and toys, some hanging by their necks. But knowing the urban legend isn’t even necessary in order to be freaked out by these creepy Victorian children. Just go in there alone. Hang out for a while. We dare you.
