Let me get this straight. Restaurant reviewer Joseph Cates is blaming himself for the bad meal he had at Avalon (“Twice Told,” Food & Drink, Feb. 3)? “... The fault is mine for a poor order the first visit.” How many diners know what a good order is? And how about the poor schmucks — read most of us — whose only chance to go out for a meal is the weekend, who don't have the luxury of dining out on your preferred Tuesdays instead of the hateful Fridays or Saturdays when it's crowded and the kitchen is running at top speed? Shouldn't the restaurant accommodate us? Or is that just too bourgeois to contemplate? Get off your knees, Mr. Cates, and demand uniformity in the restaurants you visit, for that is one of the hallmarks of a good restaurant.
