For the last 25 years, New Orleans band Eyehategod has been making bad music for bad people. And I mean bad in the sense that polite society might view its music and fans as unwholesome. In the world of metal, that’s a good thing. Better still, if the band’s inflammatory moniker doesn’t weed out the uninitiated, its gooey sludge music most certainly will. The dark sound is an acrid amalgamation of animosities that derives much of its inspirations from the 1980s punk-metal dirges of late-period Black Flag and the gluey porch treatments of the Melvins. Eyeyhategod brings its gnarled releases to Strange Matter on Tuesday, June 3. Opening will be Ringworm from Cleveland, Milwaukee’s Enabler and the Richmond-based groups Locusta and Gritter. Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is $20. strangematterrva.com.
