The only way to describe singer, poet and violinist Emilie Autumn’s music is to use her own term, “Victoriandustrial” — a merging of Victorian-era themes and history with elements of classical music, cabaret, electronica and glam rock. Her live shows incorporate dark theatrics, handmade costumes, fire tricks and burlesque performances. In 2010 Autumn wrote her autobiographical novel, “The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls,” based on her experiences living in a mental ward. That time was also the basis for her latest album, “Fight Like a Girl,” released earlier this year. Emilie Autumn performs at Kingdom on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 6:30 p.m. $17. kingdomrva.com.
