Can music help to bring about social and political change? Curmudgeons may beg to differ, but, yes, it can. That’s the inspiration “Still in Motion,” a multimedia program by the Chicago chamber music sextet eighth blackbird: to make the world a better place. Featuring culturally inspired works by National guitarist Bryce Dessner, Steve Mackey, Richard Reed Parry, David Little and Brent Dean, the three-time Grammy-winning group explores themes of violence, prejudice and social upheaval with music, spoken word and video. After the performance, a question and answer session will be followed by a John Cage musicircus with more than 100 musicians making a joyous racket together. It’s sure to be a thrilling conclusion to the show Wednesday, March 19, at the University of Richmond’s Camp Concert Hall. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices vary to $20. modlin.richmond.edu.
