Devendra Banhart at the National

Tuesday, August 17

Perhaps somewhat bound to the cosmological mysticism of his very name, making reference to both the Hindu god of thunder and rain and a legendary “Star Wars” jedi, Devendra Obi Banhart has spent the last decade delivering some of the most eccentrically strange folk music out there, full of freak-driven acoustic guitar, global rhythms and psychedelic consciousness. Featuring gentle, warbling vocals over free-association turns of phrase, Banhart is at his most laid-back, maybe even his most straightforward, with his latest album, “What We Will Be.” Bringing plenty of trippy idiosyncrasies, Banhart performs at the National on Tuesday, Aug. 17, at 7 p.m. $20-$23.
