As a fairly new Chesterfield County resident, I'm happy to be moving to Pennsylvania soon. The county leadership here is irresponsible with one exception, Marleen Durfee of the Matoaca District.
Tax assessments have doubled since we arrived a few years back and our small brick rancher is absurdly unaffordable. We have such a high water bill to keep our lawn and bushes from dying and much of this change was noticed by our elderly neighbors when the Providence Golf Course went in and home wells became nonsupporting or went dry. Providence and Windy Hill golf courses are watered with ground water that homes depended on for household needs. Development in western Chesterfield is on an obscene scale without regard for the disappearing forested resource land that Pennsylvania cherishes for its cost-effectiveness regardin
g water and air quality.
Development increases assessments here to pay for greed-backing growth. What happened to the leadership? Why are Chesterfield residents so apathetic? I see Art Warren and Dan Gecker have re-elected themselves as chairman and vice chairman. Odd. I understood that Chesterfield was a great place to live, with tree-lined roads and little need for central air other than a couple months out of the summer. No new neighborhoods are cooled by trees here. The yards are small, hot and dry and the prices for homes are out of reach.
Chesterfield will become a wasteland of greed with traffic and air pollution problems that I've seen traveling through Maryland and D.C. Why did you all elect these supervisors?
A great place to live? Chesterfield is becoming just another common city with common city problems and outrageous costs. It's noisy here too. Without sufficient tree buffers, sounds travel quite a distance and so do commercial and retail lighting.
Too bad Durfee and James Holland aren't chairing the board. Glad we're out of here.
