The California-based rock band Dawes, formed by the remains of previous rock band Simon Dawes, was heavily influenced by the acoustic-based music of artists such as Crosby, Stills & Nash, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell. The band recorded its debut album, “North Hills,” live to analog tape, which resulted in a sound that many called authentically vintage. Last year’s “Nothing Is Wrong” brought the band into the public eye after it peaked at No. 23 on the Billboard album charts, which led to a co-headlining tour with Blitzen Trapper, performances at the Occupy Wall Street protests and an appearance on the prime-time network television show “Parenthood.” Dawes performs on Brown’s Island as part of Friday Cheers on June 15 at 6:30 p.m. $5. venturerichmond.com.
