At least 45 volunteers are wished for, she says, to collect trash, help remove graffiti, take down illegal signage — such as fliers — and remove weeds. Volunteers are asked to bring their own gloves, snacks and water. The alliance will provide tools and strategies on how to use them.
“The city’s Clean City Commission and Department of Public Works have gone out of their way to accept our requests for trash bags, weed whackers, blowers, shovels, street cleaners and more,” she says.
In exchange for time served, volunteers will receive one free ticket to the Richmond Braves’ opening day at the Diamond, April 8th, at 4 p.m.
“Our biggest goal is to make the area along Broad Street From Ambler Lane to 17th Street as appealing as possible to visitors getting off of the 17th Street Interstate 95 exit,” Gay says. “Right now it is a sad gateway to our city.”
