Citizen Cope at the National

Saturday, Feb. 6.

To say that Clarence Greenwood, known musically as Citizen Cope, has had extremely poor luck with his music labels would be a terrible understatement. Since his self-titled debut in 2002, Greenwood has traded teams three times through four albums, regularly citing the mismanagement and underpromotion of his work. At one point forced to buy himself out of one of his own contracts, the frustrated singer and songwriter has finally gotten wise, releasing his blend of urban story blues rock, the upcoming “The Rainwater LP,” on his own label. Hoping he can concentrate more on the music than the music business, Citizen Cope is scheduled to perform at the National on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 8 p.m. $20-$23.
