You gotta love musicians who absorb everything. Brooklyn’s eclectic Chicha Libre is rooted in the psychedelic Peruvian pop of the ’60s, but the group takes it in wonderfully unexpected directions. Surf guitar, farfisa organ and Latin rhythms are combined with cumbia covers and original compositions sung in French, Spanish and English. The band is made up of French, American, Venezuelan and Mexican musicians. Its kaleidoscopic music has been featured on television shows as wide-ranging as “Weeds” and “The Simpsons” 20th anniversary special. Last time it played Richmond, it was in a duckpin bowling alley with the Cambodian pop of Dengue Fever and local salsa innovators Bio Ritmo, and it was one of the musical highlights of the year. If you love music that knows no boundaries, don’t miss this show. Chicha Libre performs at Balliceaux on Friday, Oct. 19, at 10 p.m. $8. Balliceauxrva.com.
