Whenever I read the name Charlie Murphy, I hear Dave Chappelle’s voice saying it as Rick James. I’m not the only one. The comedian’s infamous “True Hollywood Stories” skit on “The Chappelle Show” made Eddie Murphy’s older brother a household name for good reason: He’s hilarious. While he’ll never surpass the success and recognition of his brother or former employer, Murphy’s keen wit, timing and unmistakable somebody-might-have-to-die stares make the writer, actor, media personality and stand-up comedian a force to be reckoned with. Murphy brings his bounty of gut-busting abilities to the Richmond Funny Bone for a series of performances Thursday through Sunday, Jan. 16-19. Tickets are $38. For show times, call 521-8900 or visit funnybone.com/venues/Richmond.
