Brooklyn Zu at Toad's Place

What happens to a rapper's entourage when the music stops? The late Notorious B.I.G.'s group of friends, Junior Mafia, disbanded. Tupac Shakur's associates, The Outlawz, have suffered setbacks and eventually splintered. But Ol' Dirty Bastard's crew, The Brooklyn Zu, continues to make music four years after the death of their leader. The group (12 O'Clock, Buddha Monk, Shorty Shitstain, Murdoc and The Zoo Keeper), which released its first album last week, "Chamber #9, Verse 32," misses the intensity of Ol' Dirty, but don't we all? Ol' Dirty's friends and brothers are backed by the Topher Mohr Band at Toad's Place July 9 at 8 p.m. Nysis opens. $20-$30. 648-TOAD or -- Craig Belcher
