A lot of good stories are born of bad realities. The new nonprofit magazine Broad Street celebrates its first issue, Dangerous Territory, which catalogs the good, the bad and the ugly of real life. Featuring nonfiction tales by Yehuda Amichai, Shalom Auslander, Robert Alter, Susann Cokal, Tama Janowitz and Paisley Rekdal, a photo essay by former Style Weekly photographer Chad Hunt, an in-depth interview with Jeanette Winterson, the party for the Virginia Commonwealth University magazine will have an open mic for attendees to tell their own stories. And for those that might need some liquid encouragement to loosen the screws at the backs of their tongues, there will be a cash bar. The verbal festivities commence Thursday, Sept. 5, at the university’s Scott House at 4:30 p.m. Admission is free. broadstreetonline.org.
