Oh Canada. How many good ideas can you pack into one stage performance? The electro-fried rockabilly of Big John Bates, pounding out what could be the soundtrack for the bastard child of “Night of the Living Dead” and “Two Lane Blacktop,” plus the added provocation of a burlesque gang, the Voodoo Dollz, gyrating along to yonder music. Pretty girl with glasses playing the upright bass? Yes. Surf-rock songs about dancing in graveyards? Yes. Vampirish, pompadoured ringleader? Yes. And they hail from none other than Vancouver. Speaking strictly from an international relations standpoint, you could not wish for better cultural ambassadors. Peel your eyes from the dancing ladies and take note, Washington. They perform Friday, April 17, at 8 p.m. with Richmond's own Sugar Shack Burlesque. $12. 644-0005. — Brandon Reynolds
