While readers may give lip service to eating local, when it comes to burgers, New Zealand grass-fed beef takes top prize again this year. Burger Bach’s carbon footprint may be huge, but it appears that the taste of all-natural organic beef trumps all — and it is a locally owned company. It also doesn’t hurt that every sauce, from ketchup to béarnaise, is house-made. Second place goes to Carytown Burgers & Fries, where the kitchen is tiny, the burgers are huge and readers remain devoted. If you hear of anyone able to finish the quinto, its nearly two-pound mega-burger, let us know. Bringing up the rear is Washington-based chain Five Guys with four locations, handcrafted burgers and a bigger serving of fries than anyone needs. Turns out you like that.
