Ben Williams and Sound Effect at Modlin Center

Bassist Ben Williams has taken the jazz world by storm by mixing standard jazz with funk and gospel influences. A 2009 winner of the Thelonious Monk Competition, Williams and his band Sound Effect received high praise from critics and performed with a who’s who of jazz, including Wynton Marsalis, Roy Hargrove, Mulgrew Miller and Terence Blanchard. His debut album, “State of Art” was released in summer 2011, earning high marks in numerous media outlets including on National Public Radio. In the afternoon before his Richmond performance, Williams will hold a free workshop for anyone interested.
