While she's certainly not against lending her haunting, polished vocals to the likes of internationally renowned house-music producers Deep Dish on songs such as “Flashdance” and the Grammy-nominated “Say Hello,” Virginia-based singer and songwriter Anousheh Khalili prefers to root her solo work within more plaintive pop territory. Drawing comparisons to Fiona Apple, the demure Iranian-American relies on her dark, dexterous work on the keys to produce some truly gorgeous music. Working on the follow-up of her 2004 debut, “Let the Ground Know Who's Standing on Him,” Khalili is scheduled to perform at Gallery5 with the Honeycutters and Ophelia at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 15. $5. 644-0005.
