For its June exhibition, Reynolds Gallery is presenting a series of new paintings by artist Steven Cushner. The paintings have been noted by Cushner between representation and abstraction and are autobiographical in that they reflect his interests, idiosyncrasies and quirks. Cushner lives and works in Washington and currently teaches at George Mason University. His work has been exhibited at the Cleveland Museum of Art, Queens Museum of Art and 1708 Gallery. He is also the recipient of two visual artist fellowships from the District of Columbia Commission on the Arts and Humanities, a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship and the distinguished alumni award from University of Maryland. Reynolds Gallery also will be showing an exhibition of recent paintings and sculptures by up-and-coming artists from Virginia Commonwealth University. The exhibit, titled “Almost Famous,” features works by Sarah Briland, Rachel Cohn, Hilliary Gabryel, Sacha Ingber, Jason Keith, Aaron Koehn, Joe Olney, Lior Modan, Veronika Pausova and Bobby Scott Whipkey. Both exhibits open with a reception on Friday, June 7, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Reynolds Gallery and continue through July 19. Free.
