Adam Lambert at the National

Friday, Aug. 27

Given his background in stage musicals — at one point he served as an understudy in a touring production of “Wicked” — Adam Lambert never has been shy about putting theatricality in a performance. It's perhaps this uninhibited bombast, as well as an operatic vocal range, that charmed audiences into making him a ratings-raising finalist during the eighth season of “American Idol.” Clearly a student of Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, and the modern male equivalent to Lady Gaga, Lambert dives headfirst into gender-bending glam pop, delivering plenty of slick, strutting club tunes drawing from Euro-electro raves, disco and millennial new wave. Matching the guilty-pleasure indulgence of his debut album, “For Your Entertainment,” Lambert is scheduled to bring plenty of choreography, costumes, glitter and mascara when he performs at the National with fellow idol Allison Iraheta on Friday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. $32.50-$35.
