Strange's was founded 70 years ago by the eponymous Gideon Strange, a U.S. postal service employee whose widow sold the nursery to William Gouldin Sr. and William F. Kidd in 1947. Since then, Strange's has put down roots in Richmond with four different locations. It offers same-day arrangement delivery for any order placed before 1 p.m. While the Hull Street and Midlothian Turnpike locations offer florist services only, the stores on West Broad Street and Mechanicsville Turnpike offer garden centers and nurseries as well. "We've been doing this since the 1930s, so we probably have the largest floral design staff in the metropolitan area, plus the most experienced," Strange's president Bill Gouldin says. Founded in 1985, the locally owned Vogue Flowers and Gifts offers flowers and arrangements for all occasions, ranging from $35 to $75 and more. Headquartered on the Boulevard, Vogue also has locations on East Main Street and in the West End. Coleman Brothers, opened in 1971, provides top-tier service, aided by a fleet of 15 delivery vans.
