Three-and-a-half years ago, Cuccinelli blew into the stratosphere of Virginia politics as the hard right's towering thunderhead. It's been severe weather ever since. Love him or hate him, the attorney general still is the most consistently watchable natural force in the state. It doesn't matter if he's suffered a string of legal defeats in his questionable pursuit of U.Va. climatology emails and challenges of abortion, environmental rules and Obamacare. There's a very good chance he'll beat Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, the Republican establishment favorite, in next year's gubernatorial race. He is, without a doubt, the most powerful force in the state GOP.
