4 Ways to Appreciate Christmas Past


1. Court End Christmas - This afternoon features some of Richmond's most historic sites: The Valentine Richmond History Center, John Marshall House, the Virginia State Capitol, the Museum and White House of the Confederacy, St. John's Church and more. 2. Old-Fashioned Christmas at Maymont - Explore the seasonally decorated mansion, and try your hand at old-fashioned songs and games. Children can enjoy storytelling at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. as part of St. Nick's Christmas Party. Dec. 5, noon-5 p.m. 358-7166.

3. Yuletides at Agecroft Hall - The house, built in England 500 years ago, takes you back in time to experience the holidays from three eras: England in 1640, London in 1850 and Richmond in 1942. Open house features reenactments, stories, music, dancers, parlor games, crafts and more. Dec. 12, 12:30-5 p.m. 353-4241.

4. Out of Town Pick: Colonial Williamsburg's Grand Illumination - In candlelight to fireworks, visitors can see the 18th century in a new light. Music on multiple stages, dinners, seasonal programs and more. Dec. 5. Times vary, generally around 4:30-7 p.m. 800-447-8679.
