30. Thurston R. Moore

Chairman of Hunton and Williams

comment

He's aligned with the big kids in town, keeping his hands in the board at Virginia Museum, CenterStage and Venture Richmond. But his day job is serving as chairman of the powerful law firm Hunton and Williams, which employs 206 of its 948 lawyers here. After dealing with last year's financial waves, Moore is faced with stiff competition in the consulting arena from rival McGuireWoods.

Editors' note: The print version of this entry incorrectly referenced Jerry Kilgore's defection to McGuireWoods; he and other big names left Williams Mullen, not Hunton & Williams.

Next: 31. John B. Adams Jr. and Michael Hughes -->
